There is a lot of talk about the healing effect of nutrition on our body. Spices and herbs are used in many countries as a medicine and to increase our immune system.

What is ginger and what does it do for your body?

From the ginger plant, the wrestling stick is used as a spice in the kitchen. Ginger also has medical characteristics. You can obtain it in oil or powder and that is usually dried, but you can also buy ginger from the supermarket or greengrocer. The main building materials of ginger are gingerol and zingiberene. Thanks to these three building materials, ginger is a very powerful antioxidant.

During our search, we came across long lists with the special characteristics of this spice. Gingerol is a bio-active substance that helps against symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and motion sickness. Not only is the use so good for the immune system and helps with a migraine but we found much more;

Ginger…

  • is good for your digestion;
  • helps against bloating;
  • relieves the symptoms of (bowel) cramps;
  • helps with flu and colds because of the anti-bacterial properties;
  • helps with muscle pain;
  • Detoxifies and cleanses your body;
  • stimulates blood circulation;
  • can speed up the metabolism;
  • has a warming effect like cinnamon.

How do you use ginger in your diet?

Ginger has a lemony and spicy taste and is mainly used in Oriental cuisine. You can make tea and use it in many dishes (such as curry and rice dishes.) You will not think of it quickly but ginger syrup through your pasta gives the dish a sweet bite! Use ginger when baking cakes, cookies or cake cookies and as an addition to your smoothie! Just as easy.

Use of ginger

If you buy ginger, make sure they are not dehydrated. You can peel the ginger root and cut it into slices or grate it for example. Make tea in combination with another type of tea, such as green tea. Also very tasty with honey! Drink the tea after dinner to stimulate your digestion.

Still this:

It is advised to avoid ginger if you suffer from stomach acid. When using blood thinners, it is advisable to first consult a doctor because ginger is a natural blood thinner. Are you pregnant? Ginger can help well against nausea, but long-term use is not recommended. Ginger can increase the release of bile acid and people with gallstones or issues with the gallbladder can avoid it better.
